BLOG: Mabuhay ang Techie

Tagged as Techie, welcome

On and off through the development of this website, this has been our battlecry. Well, sort of. We'd forget about it every now and then, hope something better would come along, but the line kept coming back. It just says it all.

Techie is all about the Pinoy tech lover. There are lots of tech websites out there, but there isn't a single one - save for the odd blog here and there - that is made with Pinoys in mind. With you in mind, I should say.

I've been covering the tech news for an eternity in the tech world (back when PDAs were in fashion, and phones were just starting to have cameras), and I've always been bewildered about how the worldwide press covers these gadgets. To me, gadgets were never toys - I saved up for months to buy one. I hunted high and low on the web, and in Greenhills to find exactly what I wanted. Then I maximized it to death. I made the darn thing last, and then I sold it for as good a price as I could get.

I'm guessing you aren't that different. You want everything that's shiny and new and hot. You want to know when exactly it's coming out here, and for how much with import tax and 12% VAT. You want to have it first. You want to know if these gadgets are worth your money. And you want to hear it from someone like you, not some gurang journalist who can barely SMS, is paid in American dollars, and doesn't understand why netbooks are the greatest thing since sliced bread.

That's why we made this site. That's why we kicked out our old British overlords (a few of you may recognize the names behind this website as the same names behind the local edition of UK-based gadget magazine T3). Because when you add Pinoy to High Tech, some amazing things happen.

We're launching our beta version of the site with over 250 stories and more than a thousand gadgets in our buyer's guide. We'll be updating the site every day, so you'll always have something new to sink your teeth into.

Beyond the content from us Techies here, we expect to hear from you Techies out there. Tell us what you want to read about, comment all you want, vote in our surveys, send us angry emails (please!). When we say the name of the site is Techie, we're not talking about us Techies, we're talking about you Techies. So from one Pinoy Techie to another: Mabuhay ang Techie!
