RIM has finally unveiled the new QNX-based BlackBerry 10 which will soon find its way to new BlackBerrys. We've heard of the platform's coming (as well as what could be potentially the first device that will have it) and its arrival is certainly a big deal for the Canadian company that's raring to go back on track as far as the smartphone wars go. BlackBerry 10 app switching

BlackBerry 10 offers a different way to switch between apps from what we usually see with Android devices. Instead of going to the task manager or task list, all you have to do is drag your finger from the left edge of the display to the right to reveal other apps that are running. You can take a peek at them and return to what you were doing or swipe back to switch between different apps.

Smart touch keyboard

BlackBerry devices are known for their physical keyboards that are among the best we've seen ever. However, that doesn't mean RIM is not giving some love to the virtual counterpart. Fact is, BlackBerry 10 has what is called the smart touch keyboard that, as RIM puts it, can adapt to your touches. It offers a different twist to predictive text input by showing suggestions on top of the letter these words start with. Also, you can swipe up to go to the numbers or special characters pad and swipe left to delete a word.

In BlackBerry 10, apps can tell you if your device's power meter is too low for a certain task and warn you of potential data loss.

Cascades

This one is actually a set of BlackBerry 10 developer tools which lets devs add features and elements (buttons, check boxes, text fields) to their apps, complete with animations. The good news is, Cascades is compatible with multiple programming languages which means more coverage as far as app development goes. At first glance you'll see a resemblance with Windows Phone's Metro UI. Could be a coincidence or RIM is taking a page off its competitor's, um, playbook

'Timeline' camera

BlackBerry 10's camera app also caught our attention by having what we'd like to call as the "Timeline" feature. So, what does it do exactly? Well, as soon as you open the app, the camera will start to "record" images so, if you snapped a photo a bit too late, you can cycle back to a few seconds and choose the pic you'd like to save instead. Nice!
