POLL: Is your ePassport application a big ePain on your eButt?

ePassport woes

The burden of applying for the new biometrics-enabled Philippine ePassport has just risen to a whole new level as reports of DFA employees asking for bribes (kotong/lagay) surfaced today. According to the group Migrante International (MI), the primary victims of the modus are our hard-working overseas Filipino workers (OFWs).

MI, being an alliance that protects the rights and the welfare of OFWs, has asked President Noynoy Aquino to investigate the agency and study the fees.

Passport application fees have apparently jumped to P950 - P1,200 from its previous price of P550 - P750. This, according to MI is even more expensive than what people pay for their biometrics-enabled passports in Hong Kong, Australia, Taiwan, Malaysia, New Zealand, Japan, Middle East, and some parts of Europe.

Seriously? We're poorer and we pay for more? The DFA has new facilities and we have to wait longer? What is this? Opposite world?
