The PlayStation Move motion controller just won the "Best Hardware Accessory" award at the recently concluded Gamescom 2010 trade show in Germany this past weekend. It edged out the Microsoft Kinect to win the prize, prompting some gaming industry insiders to call it game over for the console wars.
True, the Move may be a great piece of gaming hardware, but is it that good? We won't really know until the units make their way into the Philippines, but judging by the early rave reviews, the Wii and the Xbox 360 could be in a heap of trouble.
Of course, an accessory is just an accessory, and it doesn't make the whole console. There are several factors at play, such as game selection, graphics, unit price, pirated discs, etc., which would ultimately determine if a console succeeds or not. Think of motion controllers as the gaming world's equivalent of TV town's 3D trend – a lot may like the idea, but not all will buy into it.
