WEB TOOL OF THE WEEK: Google Insights for Search

Google has made spying legitimate for us Pinoys through a Filipinized version of Insights for Search. If you haven't heard of Insights for Search yet, it's a free tool that lets you check what people are looking for using keyword usage in their search engine. You can even compare searches according to location and time.

Want to see how "Noynoy Aquino" is doing vis-a-vis "Manny Villar"? "Wowowee" in comparison with "Eat Bulaga"? Or let's assume that you're part of Smart Communications' marketing team and you want to know how Smart is doing vis-a-vis Globe Telecoms. Here's what you'll see on Insights for Search:

With this Google tool, you can:

  • see a forecast of future searches for many different queries;
  • watch how interest on a subject has changed over time through an animated map;
  • embed comparison charts on your website;
  • see how user interest rises and falls in a particular subject;
  • see which countries, cities, and regions are most interested in a certain topic;
  • find the most popular queries related to your inquiry; and
  • refine your worldwide Insights searches by category, e.g. Games and Travel.

Jay Trinidad, Google Asia Pacific's regional product marketing manager, said that "Insights for Search offers a glimpse into the spirit of the times ... An understanding of broad as well as particular trends can be useful for advertisers, marketers, economists, and everyday people interested in knowing more about the world."
