Late last year, Alcatel marked its Philippines comeback by coming out with the uber-cheap Yahoo! phone. Now, it seems the European phone maker is at it again, this time unveiling another handset with a very low price tag in the form of the blaze duo 890D. With an introductory price of just P4,999, it is officially one of the cheapest handsets powered by Google's mobile OS in town. Another reason for local penny-pinching geeks to jump on the Android bandwagon, yeah?
Given its price tag, we bet the 890D's specs won't necessarily blow you away with its specs. After all, its main selling point is that it won't burn a hole through your pockets. Anyway, the handset comes with Android 2.2 FroYo out of the box, a 2-megapixel camera and 412MHz CPU, 2.8-inch touchscreen and wireless connectivity via Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. See full specs below.

The thing is, the 890D is being advertised as the most affordable Android in the local market today. While it is very cheap, it's still tied with the P4,999 Cherry Mobile Eclipse 2.2 for the record. The two handsets are very similar, with both having the same version of Android, resistive touchscreens and dual-SIM capabilities. However, it will have to give way to the Eclipse 2.2 in a month's time since its special promo price is good only for this August (it will go back to its P6,299 SRP) unless another handset comes out to claim the official "RP's cheapest Android" crown within the period and that is a definite possibility given how these price wars go. We're not complaining though. They could throw cheaper prices at each other all they want because, at the end of the day, the clear winner is the local consumer. So, go on. Make our day.
