Apple iPad 3 will sport a Retina Display screen?

We like love the uber gorgeous Retina Display. It's one of the crowning jewels of the iPhone 4 when it rolled out last year in the market. So we were a bit disappointed that it didn't make it to the iPad 2 despite reports that its screen will have a pixel bump. Now, this again!

As if we're going into a flashback, we're hearing reports again that the iPad 3 (or whatever it will be called) this time will sport the coveted and very ellusive Retina Display. If rumors are true, then it's certainly another thing to look forward to for Apple fanboys.

The report did not come from sites like DigiTimes who have extensive experience in Apple-related tid bits. This time, it came from John Gruber, a popular Apple blogger. No, we're not saying his words are gold but they might have some weight on them if you consider that he has the inside track on things like this. Gruber dropped the bomb on a post about a different subject. "These magazines and newspapers that render each “page” as a static 1024 × 768 image are going to look like utter ass on the iPad 3’s 2048 × 1536 retina display," he said.

With this, we have to deal with a few questions first. For one, is Gruber talking about the iPad 2 HD which is also rumored to roll out later this year or are we talking about a different animal? Then, the million-dollar question: When will the iPad 3 roll out? As we've said, this isn't the first time rumors of the iPad sporting a Retina Display have surfaced so this might really mean something. As they say, where there's smoke, there's fire, right?
