Look out, Techies! ASUS' shiny new toy, the Zenbook, is all set to be launched here in the Philippines in an exclusive event that will be set in the paradise known as Palawan. The exact date? Next week, November 3, just after the Halloween season so you could look at this as a "resurrection" of sorts for our geeky hearts following the long weekend.
The Zenbook, which comes in two variants (the 11.6-inch UX21 and the 13.3-inch UX31) was actually first unveiled last October 13 in New York City so it's impending arrival here is quite early, which is very much appreciated. As a bit of refresher, the Zenbook is actually ASUS' version of the Ultrabook, a class of mobile PCs that sport a very thin profile with capable specs. It's bound to go head-to-head with Acer's own Aspire S3 Ultrabook which also launched locally just very recently.
As for its innards, the Zenbook will come with the latest second-generation Intel Core i5 and i7 CPUs, 4GB of DDR3 RAM, your standard wireless connectivity features, USB 3.0, Bluetooth 4.0, a SATA III SSD (128GB and up) and stereo speakers with Bang and Olufsen's ICEpower technology. The UX21 will come with an 11-inch 1366 x 768 display while the UX31 is slapped with a larger 13-inch display at 1600 x 900. Other nifties include a very slim and lightweight design, aluminum alloy bodies, glass trackpads and all-metal keyboards.
Aside from the local launch date, there's still no word on when it will exactly be available on local shelves. The same goes for the SRPs though pricing overseas have it at $999 (about P43,400) for the lowest configuration to $1,499 (about P65,000) for the most expensive UX31. Fortunately, your Techie team will be in there to cover the event to give you guys a closer look at this handsome device and details about pricing and availability. So, stay tuned.
