We just got official word that Cherry Mobile will be launching a new Android-powered smartphone tomorrow, May 3. Called the W900, the local fruit has bestowed upon it the "Dragon Phone" tag which makes us wonder what this one has in store for us.
This bit of news came to us in the form of a press invite which means that, yep, it's as official as it can get. Now what does the W900 have under the hood? For starters, it comes with a large 4-inch WVGA touchscreen (480 x 800 pixels), 1GB of internal storage (expandable to 32GB via microSD), a 5-megapixel main camera with 720p HD video recording (VGA secondary). It also comes with your usual wireless connectivity features (via WiFi, 3G, Bluetooth) and Android 2.3 Gingerbread although we're not sure if it's also upgradable to Ice Cream Sandwich. Guess we'll know tomorrow. Judging from the image, we're guessing the W900 also has a light brown, almost mocha-like tint on the edge of its exterior (and, perhaps, a custom UI skin).
For those asking, no, this is not the successor to the Magnum HD or the Magnum 2X (speaking of which, check out the gallery below for photos) since it only comes with a single-core 1GHz Snaprdragon chip and 512MB of RAM. The good news is, it's under P10K, P9,990 to be exact. Pretty affordable for a handset with those specs, don't you think? Let's see if this Dragon Phone will breathe more fire and life into the company's campaign.
