COMPUTEX 2012: There's a touch-enabled ASUS Zenbook Prime

As if the Zenbook Prime isn't drool-worthy enough, ASUS decided to create and show off over at Computex a touch-enabled version of the Taiwanese titan's new ultrabook (which was just unveiled here in the Philippines last week). Think of it as a sneak peek at what notebooks could possibly become once Windows 8 rolls out later this year.

The device looks to be the identical twin of the 11.6-inch Zenbook Prime UX21A, especially in terms of the exterior as it sports pretty much the same design. As expected, it also packs a backlit keyboard as well as the same gorgeous IPS 1080p HD display found on ASUS' new ultrabooks. As for its innards, we're betting it has an 3rd-generation Intel Core i5 or i7 processor, 4GB of RAM, and solid-state storage, just like the "ordinary" Zenbook Primes. However, there's no word yet if ASUS will be rolling out the device in the near future of if a larger variant will be made. We're crossing our fingers for an official roll out in the near future.

Slapping a touchscreen on an ultrabook makes sense since the next-gen versions will already have Windows 8 which is also optimized for use with our fingertips. This is also one of the reasons why we're seeing more and more devices like this and the Samsung Series 5 Ultra Convertible pop up. A sign of things to come? Definitely.
