Facebook is now 500 million strong

"As of this morning, 500 million people all around the world are actively using Facebook to stay connected with their friends and the people around them."
These are the words that came from Facebook's creator and CEO, Mark Zuckerberg, himself. It sounds so matter-of-fact that it makes you fail to realize that 1 out of every 14 people on the planet is a Facebook user.
Filipinos have a reason to celebrate, too, as Facebook is the most-visited website in the Philippines. Their victory is our victory as well (sort of), because without us, FB won't be flooded with hundred of funny pages (1, 2, 3).
Facebook Stories
In celebration of the social-networking site's achievement, FB launched Facebook Stories, a new application where the 500 million users can share their most interesting experiences. This is in line with the company's mission to "help make the world more open and connected," the same motto that has put them in the center of controversy a couple of months ago.
Controversial or not, we have to congratulate the 26-year-old CEO and his team for Zuckering in over half a billion suckers. Having reached such a milestone cements FB as the biggest proponent of Web 2.0, a fact that Friendster and Multiply (and other remnants of the early 2000s) are not too happy about.
