Globe to file a complaint against Smart for unethical practice?
We heard from our bubuwit that Globe Telecom is filing with the National Telecommunications Commission [NTC] a complaint against competitor Smart Communications for unethical practice. The subject of their ire? A Smart Bro TV commercial claiming that Smart Bro is the fastest wireless-broadband service in the Philippines.
The commercial showed DJ-slash-TV host Mo Twister testing two kits – one from Smart and the other one apparently Globe's (Globe Tattoo) – using bandwidth-testing site Speedtest.net. Now we don't know if you had seen that one, but it's not being shown on TV these days. Do we smell a cease-and-desist order stuck in there somewhere?
Fighting for truth in advertising
Most of us know by now that Globe challenged the speed-test claim, saying that it wasn't accurate as Smart only used one testing site. They even went to as far as getting telecommunications system-integrator Nesic Philippines to conduct separate tests for them, the results of which showed that Globe Tattoo beat Smart Bro's speed. So if we are to believe our source, Globe's really filing a complaint by next week. Stay tuned for further updates, Techies.
