Google acquires DocVerse, has eyes set on Microsoft Office?

Google acquires DocVerse

The battle for "cloud" supremacy takes to the skies as Google acquires DocVerse, a small company that created a program that allows MS Office users to collaborate online.

The estimated $25-$30 million deal leads us to believe that Google is poising itself to go head-to-head with MS Office 2010 - Microsoft's newest money-sucker productivity tool that promises, of all things, seamless online collaboration through better use of the cloud.

Google is no stranger to office applications. Google Docs has been around for a while and it's been evolving at a steady pace ever since it was created. One thing that it could never really pin down, though, is full compatibility with MS Office files. Text, image, and paragraph formatting usually disappear once a file has been uploaded.

With DocVerse joining the fold, we can expect these issues to be resolved allowing Google Docs to take a revolutionary step into the future. And that can't be good news for Microsoft - no way, no how.

P.S.We need not remind you that Google Docs is a free web-based app. And we know that 'free' is Juan Dela Cruz's favorite 4-letter word.

  1. jab: if this becomes a reality and i'm sure it will there'll be no reason for us to install MS Office... except if you really need the hardcore features it offers which i doubt most of us even know about...
