Google launches AdSense for high-end smartphones
Mobile publishers are now allowed to run larger text and image AdSense ads on their websites, which will be displayed on "high-end smartphones" like the iPhone, said software engineer Danielle VanDyke on the Google AdSense blog.
This new scheme, which is projected to help publishers produce revenues to help fund more mobile-specific Web content, has been implemented because of the continuous sales growth of smartphones (40 million smartphone sales worldwide in Q2), hinting that more people are now surfing the Internet on the go.
"New features like this help to nurture the smartphone ecosystem by encouraging the creation of more mobile content and by helping advertisers to grow their businesses by reaching new audiences," VanDyke said.
Prior to this launch, mobile publishers were only allowed to post smaller text and image ads on their sites. They should thank the newly developed, easy-to-install JavaScript snippet, which does not only reduce latency on high-end phones but also allow publishers to select sizes for their ads. The feature has also implemented a way to detect whether a user is browsing on a high-end smartphone.
