Google to leave China this April?

Looks like Google takes threats very seriously. After a series of struggles between the search behemoth and the Chinese government over censorship issues and cyberattacks, Google may finally pull the plug on its China office.

According to a report by Shanghai-based Chinese Business News, Google will leave China on April 10. Their source? An unidentified Chinese sales agent working for Google. As of press time, however, there is still no official announcement from Google though reports say we could expect one by March 22.

Google and the Chinese government haven't been in good terms with each other recently. The Internet firm has threatened to leave China after it became a victim of cyberattacks that investigations show originated from Chinese soil. Couple that with unsolved issues over censorship policies and you've got two titans unhappy with each other.

As in any battle, a winner emerges, and in this case it might be Baidu, the largest search engine in China, as it is seen to increase its Chinese market share even more once Google leaves... ohhhhh! NOW it makes sense. We smell a conspiracy here...
