Hot on the heels of Samsung officially announcing its version of the iPad, the Samsung Galaxy Tab, at the IFA 2010 in Berlin is Toshiba launching its manok in the tablet war – the Android-based Toshiba Folio 100. The company said it's due to roll out in African, European, and Middle Eastern countries before the year ends but hasn't mentioned anything about an Asian (or Philippine) release.
Here are the specs of the Toshiba Folio 100:
- 1024 x 600, 10.1-inch capacitive touch screen
- Nvidia Tegra 2 processor
- Android 2.2 (Froyo)
- 16GB internal storage
- SD card expansion
- HDMI out
- 802.11n WiFi
- 1.3 megapixel webcam
- Flash 10.1
- 7 hours of battery life (claimed)
In terms of size, the Folio 100 is larger than the Samsung Galaxy Tab and is about the size of the Apple iPad. It measures just half an inch thick and tips the scales at 1.7 pounds.
But while US tech site Engadget was particularly fond of Samsung's Galaxy Tab, the same cannot be said about their first impressions of the Folio 100. They weren't happy about the subpar screen as well as the still-incomplete custom skin Toshiba slapped on the device; the Engadget guys called it "abysmal." Another thing: There's no Android Market, although Toshiba does have its own app stable. The redeeming factor could be its $399 (about P18,300) price, which is way lower than the iPad's.
Well, we will hold off our own thoughts until we actually get to touch and play with the tablet. If and when...
