LEAKED: iPhone 5 photos reveal bigger screen and curved back

D-Day is near. By that we mean the arrival of  iPhone 5 (or 4S, or whatever). We're excited, yes, much like how the web is which has spewed out more than a few rumors about Apple's upcoming latest and greatest handset. And now we have a few more bits fresh from the grapevine detailing how the device will look like.

First off, thanks to a supposed mock-up photos (see top image) from a Chinese manufacturer making iPhone cases scored by MobileFun, the next iPhone could have a larger screen than its predecessor. Just how large? 4 inches, which is a big leap from the 3.5-inch display found on the iPhone 4. That also puts it right in the mix of the superphones we have now in terms of screen size. The good thing is this is achieved by not increasing the overall size but rather making more of the real-estate by shrinking the bezel.

And it's not only the front side that's getting some lovin' from the rumor mill. According to supposed leaked cases, the iPhone 5 will come with a curved back side which is a bit of a throwback to the designs of earlier iPhone models like the 3G. The move could also mean bye-bye to the the side antennae that have given users (and Steve Jobs) headaches. If you think about it, this fits in quite nicely with previous rumors that the iPhone 5 will have an aluminum cover on its back and have a redesigned antenna. See below.

But, as they say in home tv shopping shows, "wait, there's more!" The Home button, which is one of the defining features of the iPhone, also underwent a sort of make over. Reports has it that its now replaced with a larger touch-sensitive oval area which could mean multi-touch-gestures are coming to the device.

We have reservations for that multi-touch bit though; we don't know if more than one finger can fit on the touch-sensitive portion to effectively employ the feature given that the display became larger (and the handset remained at about the same size). Finally, the side buttons have also been moved to the right side of the handset and could be, like the Home button, touch-sensitive, too.

Whew, quite a lot you've got there. The real question is, will any of these make it to the final product? We're clearly excited. Fortunately, we may not have to wait much longer to see the real deal.
