Microsoft unveiling its own Windows 8 tablet next week?

Microsoft is poised to announce something big next week. We're goddamn excited. The problem is, we don't know what it is. However, reports are now spreading that the software giant will be unveiling its own Windows 8 tablet, and by that we mean a slate that's made without the help of 3rd-party manufacturers.

If that's the case then it's really something special. You see, we always thought that Microsoft's upcoming Windows 8 tablets will be made by the company's traditional hardware partners. If the Big M is indeed cooking up such a device then this means it's really taking the tablet wars seriously and wants a more direct approach in countering the iPad. Details on hardware are scant although the tablet might run on a version of Windows 8 called Windows RT and could be powered by an ARM chip.

Microsoft has been silent so far so, in the meantime, we'll be taking a mandatory grain of salt on this one. What we do know is a big announcement/launch/unveiling is coming and, whatever it is, we'll be tuning in, and so should you.
