And, as expected, Google has officially unveiled the much awaited Nexus 7 tablet over at its 1/O conference in California, all set and ready to make a big splash in the tablet wars. The device, made by ASUS, is very interesting and obviously packs a few things that we bet are making rivals watch and take notes on it intently. Check out the video below.

First, the specs. The Internet scored a few brownie points on this one; the Nexus 7 tablet does sport the hardware it was previously rumored to have. We're talking about an NVIDIA Tegra 3 1.2GHz quad-core processor, 1GB of RAM, and a 7-inch (1280 x 800) IPS LCD display. There's also wireless connectivity over Wi-Fi and Bluetooth while internal storage is at either 8GB or 16GB. There's also a 1.2-megapixel front camera and battery life, Google claims, is up to 8 hours.

But what's really interesting is that the Nexus 7 tablet comes with Android 4.1 Jelly Bean making it the first to pack the platform. Rounding up the notable points on this one are NFC capability, GPS, and, yes, a price tag that's absolutely cheaper than what other tablets have. We're looking at $199 (about P8,400) for the 8GB version and $249 (about P10,500) for the 16GB, just like what the rumor mill predicted . Needless to say this device will attract attention with its SRP that screams "bargain!" considering the specs it has.

As for availability, the Nexus 7 will be up for pre-order via Google Play and is pegged to start shipping in the middle of next month to Australia, Canada, the UK and the US. Here's to hoping it visits the Philippines soon, too.
