News about the Cherry Mobile Q300 Trident broke out a few days ago as print ads revealed that it was the "first triple SIM phone" available in the Philippines. However, one of CM's closest competitors, Torque, is quick to debunk this myth, saying that the Torque TQ800 Trinity came out almost a month sooner than the Trident.
According to a representative from Torque, the triple-SIM Trinity has been announced as early as May 26, 2010, and that the phone has been available since June from telcos and Torque kiosks.
Torque said that what Cherry Mobile did was to simply advertise the Trident's availability a day before Torque launched its Trinity campaign. Trident ads came out on July 1 (Thursday) while Torque TQ800 Trinity ads came out on July 2.
Torque's rep also said that not only is the Trinity the first triple-SIM phone in the country, but it is also the first triple-SIM phone in the world. Unfortunately, we have more than enough reason to believe that the honor of being called the latter belongs to the Intex IN 5030.
Regardless of who came first, though, the clear winner is the Pinoy buyer. Now, it just remains to be seen which of these 2 companies come out with the first quadruple SIM phone. Hey, it could happen!
UPDATE: Torque verified that the TQ800 Trinity is the World's first GSM+GSM+GSM phone, whereas the Intex IN 5030 is the world's first GSM+GSM+CDMA phone.
