Palm Pre to be released mid-May?
The Palm Pre rumor mill shifted into high gear as a document indicating a May 17 release date for the device in the US got leaked onto Engadget yesterday.
The paper is supposedly Sprint's planning document, which details the carrier's projects for the first half of 2009.
Just four days ago, the exclusive carrier of the Pre in the US, figured prominently in the blogosphere when rumors of Sprint enforcing a vacation blackout in May for all its retail employees started circulating. Word is that the employees are now being trained for the launch.
Another story fueling the fire was news of two men, presumably Sprint or Palm employees, using a Palm Pre at the annual Bring Your Own Big Wheel Race in San Francisco.
Another possible date of release is June 29, as floated by Gizmodo. That date, coincidentally, is the second anniversary of the iPhone's launch. When Palm announced the Pre at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas in January, it said that the smart phone will be available by the middle of this year.
Update: We just learned from the horse's mouth that the Palm Pre will go on sale on June 6.
