Panasonic Philippines joins 3D trend with the Viera Plasma HD 3D TV V series

While LG and Samsung are busy slugging it out for supremacy on the Philippine 3D TV market, another contender announced its bid to join the battle – Panasonic. The company will be bringing its own brand of 3D weaponry, the Panasonic Viera Plasma HD 3D TV V series. The model has features that will blow the competition out of the water, or so they hope.

The guys over at Panasonic were quick to point out that their 3D TV is far from anything their competitors have shown so far. It uses what they call the Frame Sequential technology, which replaces the more conventional Line by Line and Checkered Sampling methods that they claim result in reduced vertical resolution or loss in HD 3D image quality. (Well, we still gotta see how it compares to this Samsung 3D LED TV we've reviewed earlier.)

The Panasonic Viera Plasma HD 3D TV V series (that's a lot of Vs) has an expected viewing life of 100,000 hours and sports 4 HDMI slots, a USB port, energy-saving features, and an insanely high contrast ratio of 5,000,000:1. Two sizes are available: 65 (TH-P65VT20) and 50 inches (TH-P20VT20).

Of course, you still need 3D glasses, and Panasonic's are nothing like the crappy ones we used to see Avatar. They are battery-powered and has a precise shutter system that works in tandem with the 3D TV's Frame Sequential technology. The good news is Panasonic will be providing a pair for every 3D TV that you buy. The bad news is if you're looking to purchase another pair, you'll have to shell out P6,000-P7,000 for a new one.

As for pricing and availability, Panasonic told us to expect their 3D TVs before the year ends. They did not reveal any SRPs, though they said theirs will be similarly priced to their competitors'. Wise move, Panasonic. Wise move.

  1. Dan C Rivera Jr: Crap ! sooner or later 3D TVs (including those darn 3D gl*sses) will be dime a dozen. Just wait for the exciting dust to settle. Patience is a virtue.
