Last week, both Smart and Globe started offering the Galaxy S III up for pre-order. However, the former didn't indicate at first what postpaid plans Samsung's latest flagship will be packaged with (click here for Globe's Galaxy S III postpaid plans). Now, it's been revealed that the PLDT-owned telco will be offering the device for free at Unli Data Plan 2000.
In case you didn't know, other top-tier handsets like the iPhone 4 and Sensation XE also come under the same unlimited data plan (which offers 200 texts, 150 minutes of voice call and unli mobile Internet). The only difference it seems, and this is a biggie, is that you'll be stuck with a 30-month lock-in period for the Galaxy S III, 6 months more than the norm. We're not math majors but we did a bit of computation on our own to see how that stacks up with Globe's Unli Surf Combo Plan 2499 in which the device will also come free. See below.
- Smart UnliData Plan 2000: P2,000 x 30 months (lock-in period) = P60,000
- Globe Unli Surf Combo Plan 2499: P2,499 x 24 months (lock-in period) = P59,976
Note: The handset comes free in both plans so the total amount already shows the overall cost you'll pay for each plan for the duration of your subscription
Pretty much the same, no? Anyway, we still don't know if the handset will be offered on other Smart postpaid plans and what its official prepaid SRP will be. The good news is we'll likely get more deets later tonight at the Galaxy S III's official Philippine launch so, stay tuned!
