Samsung Galaxy Z, leaked!

Well, how about that? It looks as though Samsung has somethingin store  for those who want an affordable version of the Galaxy SII. You see, even those who are short in cash can score a solid Galaxy unit in the future. Enter the Galaxy Z, the supposed cheaper and watered-down version of the korean-titan's current flagship handset.

Swedish Telco Three spilled the beans by posting the handset on its website before any official announcement. We don't know what good 'ol Sammy thinks about that one. Anyway, as we've said, the Galaxy Z is the less impressive version of the SII. You could look at it as the latter's little bro, at least specs-wise. But that doesn't mean it doesn't pack a punch under its hood.

The Galaxy Z comes packed with a 1GHz dual-core chip, a 4.2-inch SLCD display, a 5-megapixel camera with flash and 720p HD video recording, 8GB internal memory, full wireless connectivity and Android 2.3 Gingerbread. Whew! If we were a bit earlier in the smartphone wars, those specs would have given the Galaxy Z superphone status. Nonetheless it's still better, hardware-wise, than most handsets out there.

As expected, the Galaxy Z is not as sexy as the SII, which once boasted the world's thinnest smartphone title. It measures 125.3 x 66.1 x 9.5 mm and tips the scales at 135g, not anorexic but still good nonetheless.

No official word yet on its SRP from the Koreans though Three telco will sell it for $630 (about P27,200) with no contract. That's almost P3,000 below than the SII's current SRP. We're hoping it would be even cheaper once it makes landfall here, whenever that may be. In the meantime, you can take a peek at several photos in the gallery below...
