Sharp's Quattron and Plasmacluster Ion technologies make us think of the future
"Quattron" and "Plasmacluster Ion." These make you think of a scene taken straight out of Tron or some other sci-fi movie, no? Well, they're just 2 of Sharp's technological breakthroughs, which include improved LED bulbs to give consumers better gadgets to lust after. The good news is Sharp's appliances blessed with these technologies will be arriving here in the Philippines. The bad news is there's no definite date yet.

Quattron
Quattron quad-pixel technology is all about adding a fourth color, yellow, to the standard RGB color subpixels in LCD TVs. The result? More vibrant and sharper (pun intended) colors and more than a trillion hues.
Sharp LCD TVs that get the Quattron treatment incorporate the UV2A Photo Alignment technology, which provides mega-contrast, high efficiency, and high-speed response in LCD TVs. Quattron LCDs will be available in 3 sizes: 52, 46, and 40 inches. We were told they might arrive before the year ends. Might. As for pricing, let's just say we're not expecting them to be Divisoria cheap.

Plasmacluster Ion
We're already familiar with Sharp's Plasmacluster Ion technology, but here's what it is for those not in the know: In a nutshell, this technology makes use of positive and negative ions to pew pew harmful bacterias and viruses. Some of Sharp's air conditioners, air purifiers, and refrigerators come equipped with PCI technology, and we're told, yet again, to expect them soon.

Improved LED bulbs
It looks as though Sharp is also thinking of our Meralco bill pains. Its next-gen LED bulbs consume only 7.6 watts, which could translate to about 80% energy savings compared to ordinary bulbs'. They're said to last 40,000 freakin' hours – that's the equivalent of about 40 ordinary bulbs. What's more is that they emit lesser infrared and UV rays and have no mercury content.

As a bonus, Sharp gave us a sneak peek of its very own 3D projector, proving once and for all that the company wants to join the 3D bandwagon.
Sharp is keeping a keen eye on the future. Let's just hope that it's keeping an eye on our budget, too.
