Creative D100
Whenever we hear the word "Bluetooth," we automatically think of yuppies talking to themselves on the MRT. It's one of the technologies that, for obvious reasons, has lost all its appeal because of the notoriety of its earpieces. Fortunately, the Creative D100 is now out to vindicate its kind and, dare we say, it did a very good job at doing it, too.
First the obvious: Yes, this is a speaker-in-a-box solution. You may call it a soundbar, too, but it's a little too primitive to be compared to the likes of Philips' and Yamaha's home theater offerings. The D100 is simply a 2.1 system that's designed for condos, studio units, and other "spatially challenged" establishments.
Setup is idiot-proof all the way. Just plug in the unit to a wall socket, hold the Bluetooth button up front for about 5 seconds, pair it with your device, and voila! You're good to go. If you want to go completely wireless, simply supply the unit 4 pieces of good old AA batteries.
Operating the D100 is just as idiot-proof (we just love that word), too. Since the unit leaves you no choice but to tweak the volume, everything else is left to your device. Chances are you'll be pairing this baby with your phone, but an optional Bluetooth transmitter for older iPod models is also available. Should you just want the D100 to work as a regular speaker, there's the old-fashioned 3.5mm jack located at the back.
Sound quality leaves much to be desired. Though it has no trouble with trebles, the bass is definitely not boss. Don't get us wrong, we're still glad that a mini subwoofer is there, but the size limitation ultimately makes it perform under par. For its P3,499 price tag , though, that is to be expected, and we're happy enough that it gives us a chance to cut the cords and clean up our clutter.
