MSI Wind Top AE2020

Aching for a touch-screen device that's not a phone or a portable reader? Then here's something you should consider: The MSI Wind Top AE2020 is a sleek and functional all-in-one that's more than just a pretty face.

As far as all-in-one desktops go, the AE2020 is the neatest-looking we've tested. Ports are neatly stowed away on both sides, along with a tray-type disc drive. A clear, plastic border gives the screen a floating effect, much like what Sony does with its BRAVIA line of LCD TVs.

Despite the modern design, we would have preferred it if the bezel weren't plastered with stickers. They ruin the classy feel of the AE2020 and take attention away from the fake leather bottom.

The keyboard and the mouse are both wireless, and thankfully so, as it makes the set look like a legit iMac contender. One niggle about the keyboard, though, is that it looks and feels like a toy. It's too cute for a serious, design-oriented PC like this.

Admittedly, the MSI Wind Top AE2020's main selling point is its touch screen. It works just fine, but you will soon find out that it's more for showing off than for getting real work done. Probably the only time we really preferred to utilize it was when we used it for Wikimapia and Google Maps. For word processing and Photoshop purposes, however, it's much better to do it the old-fashioned way.

Specs and performance

Fortunately for the AE2020, it's not a slouch, as it could outperform the average computer. Novabench gives it a stunning 265 points, making it the second best performing computer we've tested to date next only to the Sony VAIO VGN-FW43G.

Its weakest point, according to the Windows Experience Index, is the Nvidia ION graphics. But with a score of 4.8, that's not so bad. It can run most of today's games, but don't expect stellar performance.

All in all, the Wind Top AE2020 is a solid computer. It's affordable at just P40,995, but it could have been cheaper if MSI nixed the touch screen. If you want something to show off to visitors, however, the price premium should be more than worth it.

  1. Aldrich Barcenas: It's pretty underpowered for its price point. I saw dell studios with decent touch capabilities down at CEL 2009. But, with no disrespect. the reviewer should've done more in reviewing the capabilities of the machine. Since this is one of the newer sets of PC with ION chips. the reviewer should have tested the ION performance especially on HD movies. Get the Flash 10.1 beta and do 720p youtube videos, and at least play games (I know its not a gaming rig) but people sometimes get this devices not suited for their intended use.

This is a matter of opinion. But the WPI is not really a much of a determining factor for performance. That is mostly designed for ordinary people to have quick *ssessment on the hardware present on the system. It would be better if you can do other forms of benchmarking for PCs.
