MyPhone Q22 Duo

Take a crack team of Pinoy engineers, a boat load of Pinoy content, and a very Pinoy price point and what do you get? The dual-SIM full QWERTY MyPhone Q22 Duo.

Like most of MyPhone's products, the Q22 Duo has two SIM slots. It could receive texts and calls from both SIMS simultaneously as long as they're active or you can choose to disable one of them if you're trying to avoid an annoying stalker.

MyPhone has come a long way especially when it comes to build quality. The Q22 feels solid from top to bottom and if it weren't for the generic font on the keys, it could pass off as a Nokia E-series phone or even a BlackBerry. Plus, the Philippine Islands pattern on the back plate is a nice touch, riding on the popularity of Collezione's C2 line, no doubt.

The screen is spacious although we wish the resolution were higher - a 220 x 176-pixel count at this size is just unsightly. That, however, will jack up the price significantly so we understand MyPhone's plight, especially since they're marketing the Q22 to the masses.

The Q22 runs on good old GSM so, as might have already expected, there's no high speed internet. Too bad since the QWERTY keyboard could have come in handy for typing emails and lengthy addresses. Despite this, however, the Q22 works around the lack of connection speeds via specialized apps.

Sites like Pep.ph, Inquirer.net, and, oh yes, Friendster have their own icons prominently displayed on the main menu. The main attraction though is the "Pinoy" folder that sits at the center of everything. It's similar to the Aquino menu on the special edition Q21 Duo except that it contains all the quirky Filipino content that MyPhone has gathered over the years. A few of the things available are movie quotes, jokes, riddles (bugtong), and even karaoke songs.

All in all there's more to the Q22 Duo than just raw features and specs, that much is obvious. It may not be the most advanced, but it's definitely the most Pinoy. And for only P3,990 it's an obvious steal.
