Nokia 5130 Xpress Music

Posted on: 08/03/09 by Chrissy Icamina-Dalusong

With its red trim and music player side keys, the Nokia 5130 Xpress Music is quite the Nokia 5310 Xpress Music doppelganger-only a bit thicker and shinier.

Don't throw away your iPod just yet

This Xpress Music newbie comes with a 1GB microSD memory card, which is enough to block off 250 worth of songs on Love Radio on the commute to work. As for battery life, you can treat yourself to 21 hours straight of Lito Camo hits or about 288 hours of standby time.

Transferring music, themes, images, and uhm, "artistic videos" on the Nokia 5130 is made easy thanks to the included microUSB cable, which allows the phone to act as a storage device, provided the memory card is plugged in.

You can use your favorite 3.5mm earphones with the phone, which can boost the player's sound quality. Die-hard audiophiles may still cringe at the clangy sound, but its built-in equalizer helps boost bass and treble. Sort of.

Overall, its music player is not exactly an iPod killer, but considering the handset's other features, the phone's P6,700 price tag is the only pogi point it needs.

It's a camera phone, too, you know

Aside from its music player, the 5130 Xpress Music features a 2-megapixel camera. Though it doesn't have flash, photos are quite decent, provided you're not pasmado. The video camera also allows you to record videos for as long as your memory card can handle.

With its respectable battery life, it does well in its prime directive: being a reliable phone in making calls and sending text messages. The only downside to it is its rigid keys, which are a pain in the ass for those under an unlimited text plan. The smudge-prone glossy housing also makes it look a bit tacky. Well, the phone is cheap, but it doesn't have to be obvious, right?
